Wendy Lines is an elder and trustee of Matagiri. A native of Northern New Jersey, she graduated with a B.S. from Simmons College in Boston, MA. She traveled to India in 1969 and met The Mother in 1970 who accepted her to become a member of Auroville. She pioneered at Hermitage in Auroville and was later accepted to join the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

She studied with an Indian painter and musician, Niranjan Guha Roy, and his French wife, Amita, a dancer and yoga teacher.

Wendy started painting when she moved to France in 1989.  She lived in Brittany for six years teaching hatha yoga and working at a Sri Aurobindo Center called Motherland. In 1994 she moved to Woodstock, NY where she teaches hatha yoga and owns a boutique with her husband, Julian, called Pondicherry. She is fluent in Spanish and French.

She studied landscape painting with local artist Christie Scheele for 8 years. Wendy works in water-based oils or chalk pastels, her subjects are often landscapes or flowers.
