Odissi is a major ancient Indian classical dance which looks like sculptures in motion and originated in the temples of Odisha. Following the Natyashastra, this form is very authentic and classical having spectacular lyrical fluid movements, intricate footwork, vivid hand gestures (mudras), dramaturgy and story telling and above all performed with soul stirring music. Most importantly this form has layers of deep spirituality, philosophy and values embedded within .

The class will include:
– Brief history and the spiritual basis ( theory )
– Bhoomi Pranam or Obeisance to mother earth (theory and performance)
– Physical postures and its therapeutic values
– Hasta Mudra or hand gestures and how are they used
– A small pure dance collection of steps
