Hindustani classical vocalists Sabina Mumtaz Islam and Sanjukta Biswas met as young scholars at the prestigious Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata, India. There, they met their lifelong gurus, Vidushi Subhra Guha and Padmashree Pandit Vijay Kichlu. They have evolved into stunning artists in their own right as well as bearers of a long and illustrious tradition. Their rigorous training and their deep and abiding friendship has made for a dynamic duo flying like two wings of the same majestic bird.
Timothy Hill received guidance in Hindustani classical vocal music from Sheila Dhar and Vijay Kichlu. In his own work as well as in long associations with David Hykes and the Harmonic Choir, and Baird Hersey and Prana, he has pioneered the art of harmonic (overtone) singing, and made deep explorations into the possibilities of the voice. In 2018 he co-founded with Iva Bittová the Žingora Vocal School in Rhinebeck, NY.
Friends for many years, this will be Sabina and Sanjukta’s first collaboration with Timothy. They will be accompanied by Mir Naqibul Islam on tabla.
