Training with top mus icians including Yo-Yo Ma\, Sir Yehudi Menuhin\, Leonard Bernstein protég é Eiji Oue\, Benjamin Zander\, Laurence Lesser\, Andrés Díaz\, and Coli n Carr\, Henderson performed regularly as a soloist\, chamber musician\, a nd orchestral cellist in Boston’s rich musical community.\n\nAt 13 Dale debuted professionally with the Buffalo Philharmonic\, performing Tchaiko vsky’s Rococo Variations to critical acclaim. Other performance highligh ts included regular solo and chamber music recitals at Boston’s Gardner Museum\, Haydn C Major Concerto performances in Tokyo\, and numerous othe r concerti performances with the Erie Philharmonic\, Marlboro Orchestra\, New England Philharmonic\, Springfield Symphony Orchestra\, Wellesley Sym phony Orchestra\, Indian Hill Symphony\, Newton Symphony Orchestra\, Mozar tium Chamber Orchestra\, New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orche stra\, and Greater Boston Youth Symphony Chamber Orchestra.\n\nDale attend ed the Greenwood\, Musicorda\, Kneisel Hall\, Aspen\, Taos\, and Banff mus ic festivals. He won 1st Prize in the Harry Dubbs Memorial Award\, Framing ham State College’s Christa McAuliffe Memorial Medallion for Excellence\ , Leonard D. Wood Memorial Award\, New England Symphony Competition (Laske r Young Soloist Award)\, Wellesley Symphony Competition\, Springfield Symp hony/Musicorda Competition\, New England Philharmonic Competition\, Marlbo ro Symphony Competition\, Indian Hill Symphony Competition\, and the Philh armonic Society of Arlington Competition.\n\nAfter performing privately fo r Sir Yehudi Menuhin in 1992\, Menuhin wrote: “I was expecting to hear b eautiful cello playing from what Eiji [Oue] said and I was not disappoin ted.” The following year Dale accepted Menuhin’s invitation to attend the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland. From 1996 to 2000 Henderson earned a Bachelor of Music at Boston’s New England Conservator y\, and then pursued a Master of Music at UCLA.\n\nExcelling as a traditio nal performer\, Henderson’s core belief that classical music belongs to everyone often clashed with mainstream culture’s disconnect from the art form. Ever dwindling classical music audiences\, a shrinking market\, maj or orchestra closures\, and constant budget cuts to arts organizations and education confirmed Henderson’s sense of a serious divide between art a nd audiences. First taking action in 2004\, Dale joined the Community Musi c Center of Boston in their mission to bring quality classical music educa tion to underserved urban youth. He served as the cello faculty there for four years.\n\nAfter moving to New York\, Dale took a more direct approach \, breaking conventional boundaries for classical music and reinventing wh ere and how the art form connects to audiences. In 2010 Henderson began hi s impassioned campaign of “Bach in the Subways” performances in New Yo rk City to transcend the cultural barriers that prevent people from connec ting with classical music. His unconventional vision caught on\, and withi n five years he grew his solo project into a global music movement which n ow brings new audiences to classical music in hundreds of cities in dozens of countries.\n\nDale is based in New York City and performs around the w orld.\n\nOur thanks to the Diane and Garry Kvistad Foundation for their su pport.
